The most important historical pass in the Western Pyrenees. Place recognized for being the scene of the defeat of Charlemagne by the Vascones when they crossed the Pyrenees in the year 778. In commemoration of such a historic deed, a granite monolith has been erected since 1967.

Santa María de Roncesvalles Collegiate Church , an old hospital for pilgrims and an enclave with profound epic resonances, in whose extensive borders it was always considered the most relevant and endearing landmark of the Compostelana route.

We will start the walk from Alto de Ibañeta to the town of Bizkarreta/Gerendian. The Pyrenean landscape accompanies us along paths lined with beech and oak trees. The towns of Burguete and Espinal grown along the Way show us the sturdy Navarrese mansions full of family tradition. The writer Ernest Hemingway liked to rest and fish in this area, after the Fiestas de San Fermin. After the ups and downs and once passing the Puerto de Mezkiriz, we will reach our end of stage in Bizkarreta/Gerendian. Transfer to the drivers of each car to Alto de Ibañeta, beginning of the walk, where the cars are parked.
