Covid European Passport

The European Parliament has approved the deployment of the Covid passport in the old continent. The system will consist of a certificate in the form of a QR code, which contains personal data on vaccination. The Commission said that it will be safe and that it is negotiating with the World Health Organization so that the passport is recognized beyond Europe.

The 27 expressed their wish to include Norway, Iceland and Switzerland, countries that are not part of the Union. Likewise, American travelers, said senior officials of the commission, will be able to access Europe. But the same senior officials said they have no contact with the UK on this matter.

For its part, the British government is developing its own digital passport, which will be discussed in the G7, of the richest countries, which include the United States and Canada and where the European Union is present.

In any case, Didier Reynders, the European Commissioner for Justice, does not consider the matter closed because he admits that it could happen that one or more European countries go their own way. Reynders warned of the risk of fragmentation in Europe if each one goes their own way, so that the borders must reject travelers for not being able to verify the veracity of the data.
